High grade gold discovery modeled on Eskay Creek
The 100% owned Hartless Joe property covers high-grade epithermal gold-silver mineralization in southern Yukon Territory. The property is located 28 km east-northeast of Whitehorse within the Traditional Territories of the Ta'an Kwäch'än Council and the Kwanlin Dün First Nation.
The Hartless Joe property lies within Stikina, an accreted island arc terrane that extends through northern British Columbia into Yukon. Stikina hosts important epithermal vein and exhalite deposits such as the Premier Mine, Brucejack Deposit, and Eskay Creek Mine.
In 2015, Strategic discovered a high grade quartz-rich band that is either an exhalite horizon or a flat-lying vein located on the lower slopes of an alpine valley, within a 500 by 250 m area containing scattered mineralized talus and strong gold and copper soil geochemical anomalies. A continuous chip sample taken across the discovery outcrop (now referred to as the King Showing) graded 60 g/t gold, 554 g/t silver, 5.01% lead, and 0.35% copper over 1.2 m. Follow-up trenching in 2016 returned 44.3 g/t gold, 375 g/t silver, 2.04% lead and 0.14% copper over 2.10 m from an exposure 82 m along strike from the discovery outcrop.
The Queen Showing was discovered in 2016 near a ridge top and has been traced for 25 m along strike before being covered by talus. A continuous chip sample from the Queen Showing returned 462 g/t gold, 79.6 g/t silver, 1.02% lead and 0.28% copper over 0.40 m.
The Ace Showing is an historical occurrence that was identified by prospectors in the late 1960s. It lies 580 m east-southeast of the King Showing and 320 m northwest of the Queen Showing. It comprises a narrow quartz-rich horizon that has been traced in outcrop along a 90 m strike length. Historical sampling graded 27.4 g/t gold 78.9 g/t silver 2.2% lead 1.9% zinc over 0.10 m. This showing remains open along strike in both directions beneath talus
Reconnaissance-scale exploration has been conducted in different parts of the Hartless Joe property has identified several areas with gold-rich mineralization and highly elevated soil geochemical results for gold and its various pathfinder elements. Gold occurrences and soil anomalies are spread over a 5.4 km2 area (see Figures 1 and 2 below). Many other high grade gold rock samples have been collected on the property including values of 73, 149 and 190.5 g/t.
Diamond drilling at the Hartless Joe
property in 2016 totalled 367.3 m, with five holes at the King Showing and one
hole at the Queen Showing. Drill holes
intersected weakly silicified sediments containing disseminated, banded and
fracture filling sulphides, down-dip of mineralized exposures. However, gold assays yielded low values, with
a maximum of 1.57 g/t over 2.78 m in hole HAR-16-001.
The Hartless Joe property is one of eight gold properties available for option that Strategic owns in the Yukon portion of Stikina.
